I see what you mean. I The Heiress she had gentility and grace, she was just considered plain. Her father did love her I think but didn’t expect much.

Provacative comment: Makes me wonder why Catherine’s lifetime ‘nanny/tutor,’ whose job it’s been to mentor her in all social amenities, graces & proper feminine etiquette has failed miserably. And why is Catherine such an oddball to begin with?

I am bored already. The effects are so cheap. Urinating in the parlor as if she wore no underwear. Then she hits Chaplin in the mouth after COUNTING her steps. Come on! Why do a James film if you don’t respect James subtle art?
I will see it through, but it is clear already that the de Havilland-Clift version is far more interesting.

  15. johnyzero2000 says:

    Jennifer Jason …
Jennifer Jason Leigh plays Catherine like she’s the village idiot and Catherine is not stupid. I think this is a very lackluster version of Washington Square and Holland has no feel for the story and has complete contempt for all the characters.

    That dress is truly …
That dress is truly hideous! It’s a lot worse than the one described in the book.
Jenifer Jason Leigh is so good in this- she gets that awkwardness just right.
