Unusual Paragraph
How quickly can you find out what is unusual about this paragraph? It looks so ordinary that you would think that nothing was wrong with it at all and, in fact, nothing is. But it is unusual. Why? If you study it and think about it you may find out, but I am not going to assist you in any way. You must do it without coaching. No doubt, if you work at it for long, it will dawn on you. Who knows? Go to work and try your skill. Par is about half an hour.

City Wide Wi-Fi: Sheesh…
I was very excited when Earthlink decided to make Philadelphia part of its city wide experiments. My fingers were dialing up Earthlink’s tech support before I had even finished reading the first Press Release. Of course being in the ‘mystical’ industry that is the internet I had a few technical questions for the poor unassuming customer support representative.
|
Q: Will the Wi-Fi signal reach inside my home, so that I can work at my desk.
A: Not if you have brick walls.
…and that’s where I hung up. Who doesn’t have brick walls in the city? So I asked the nice lady, “Well where can I get a signal?” The Street is apparently the only answer to this question, so I gave up the dream of a Comcast free lifestyle and bitterly sent off another check to the monopocorp.
Now Earthlink is claiming that their Wi-Fi program is a huge disaster and they’ve stopped adding new cities to their plan. City Hall is in negotiations with Earthlink at this very moment to try and get a new Wi-Fi provider before they pull up stakes and quit Philly altogether.
This writer finds it incredibly stupid that Earthlink would launch a program as vast as this without knowing the basic limitations of it’s own technology. If you’ve ever tried to set-up your own home network you’d quickly figure out that the signal can be blocked by a thick wall, so why couldn’t Earthlink?

Philadelphian’s Unable to Cross Street
In another brilliant political move City Councilman Jim Kenny wants to take on construction companies that block our sidewalks. I have to assume that he was moved to this action by recognizing the fact that people must be too stupid to cross the street. First it’s smoking, then plastic bags and now sidewalks… what’s next? A bill to help Philadelphians blow their own nose? At what point did government become our Mom and Dad protecting us from our own choices and common sense?
|
 |
“I see people in real serious jeopardy from vehicular traffic, that they have to cross over one side, cross back the other. And they put themselves in danger from vehicles traveling down the street.” ~ Councilman Kenney
These people you see crossing the street are the ones who obviously can’t read the giant red and white signs that say “Construction, Please Cross at Nearest Crosswalk”. It’s only the laziness of folks who don’t want to follow a simple instruction, but would rather take a stroll down the asphalt dogging bread trucks, that is raising the concern of the Councilman.
Can we please go back to legislating real problems now? EMS Chronically Under Staffed… anyone?
